A few years ago a good friend of mine lead a women's group in New Jersey called, Full Moon Lodge Gathering. I was invited to join their Circle but I had to decline because I lived too far away to attend their weekly meetings. Though the distance was great, another state, they keep me close via e-mails about the news and their achievements. I wanted to give something back. It was the week between New Year's and Three King's Day (Jan.6) I wrote this story and gifted it to the Circle. Only a handful have ever read it. Now it's your turn.
Your thoughts and comments would be welcomed.
Black Dove
THE NEWBORN
The time has come.
The Seven Sisters came from the Four Corners of the Universe to be together on this most holy and blessed night. The distance mattered not to these Wise Women for tonight the Great Event was to take place on this most Sacred Ground and their presence was absolute.
As Grandmother Moon, the Mother of all who lives beneath Her, soared higher into the midnight-blue sky, She is there to give not only witness of the happenings that were occurring below Her, but to the wondrous event which will soon take place with Her in the heavens. The Council slowly entered the Sacred Ground and took their rightful place into the Hallowed Circle.
Each of the Seven, a goddess in her own right, brought gifts to enhance and invest power within The Circle. The Sisters carried the Symbols of Strength and Wisdom from each one’s clan to show both Love and Respect to Those Who Walked Before Us, for without their guidance this night would never be.
The first brought forth a bowl, etched with mythical symbols of pasted times, full with the terra firma of Mother Earth. Within it was buried seeds of great possibilities that will soon spring forth into a new life form.
The second carried different colored bottles of perfume from exotic lands. Their scents filled the air with sweetness that only enriched the heart but the soul as well.
The third Sister opened a blanket within The Circle and from it tumbled out seashells from the Great Ocean Mother. Each shell in it’s shape, size and color told a tale of it’s travels through the Great Sea in order to reach this final place of honor. The largest one, washed clean by the Sea Maidens, shined a brilliant color of pink for it held the voice of the Great Sea Mother within it’s womb.
The forth gently laid within The Circle feathers of every color of the Rainbow. Each one represents a Winged One in their many lengths, styles and sometimes song. For they are the Singers of Messages and Prayers to the Great Mystery from the Earth Children. They were created to fly to the heavens and be close to the Original Source, therefore their feathers must be not only beautiful but strong.
The fifth Sister from her pockets took out and placed in The Circle stones of every design, shape and texture. Each, if looked closely, held a face to it and with it they told a story. Some of the stories were funny or silly while others were sad and thought provoking. But each was a good story because they were truthful and honest and that all the Universe can really ask for in any and all life forms.
The sixth one held a goblet fill of water which came from a river where a Most Holy Being was born and later baptized in it over a century ago. This water was carried by many Sisters across many lands to reach The Circle tonight. And as to mark the end of it’s journey the water was pored into the bowl where the seeds slept to help create Life.
The seventh and final Sister who called the others together tonight held a touch in her hands and from it burned a glorious flame. Fire was her gift. For it not only brought warmth into The
Circle but it was also served as a beckon for those to find their way. This Sister is called She Who Gives Praise and as a final act to close The Circle she traveled around it and lit a smaller version of a torch in front of them. This flame represented the Passion of Life that lives within their hearts.
With this done all the Sisters sat down in The Circle and waited.
Suddenly a small voice came out from within The Circle. It belonged to the daughter of the Wise Women who empowered The Circle with the Gift of Feathers from the Winged Ones. The Young One is what the other Sisters loving called her a “Goddess-In-Training”, since she is still too young to be a Wise Women quietly asked if she too could place a gift with the Sacred Circle. She Who Gives Praise gently smiled and nodded yes. The young daughter brought forth one peacock feather full of color and pride as she respectfully laid it down. When asked why she choose this breed of Winged One, the child replied besides the colorful appearance if one looks closely one could see an eye in the design. To her the ‘eye’ means that Those Who Came Before Us are watching over us and keeping us safe. All the Sisters approved of the Young One’s choose and reason and accepted her gift. She then asked to her Mother and if she could put forth a question to her other ‘Little Mothers’. The Young One’s Mother said yes. She turned to She Who Gives Praise and asked.
“Why is this night so special and different than from the other nights we meet in this Sacred Place? And why this time did we bring offerings and gifts?”
She Who Gives Praise smiled and answered.
“This night happens but once in every generation. This is the night where the heavens recreates itself by bring forth life. Tonight my little one the night sky will open up and with Grandmother Moon as guardian and we as midwives the Universe will give birth to a star. It is a symbol to all Two-Legged Ones that Life is always recreating itself. The Life in all forms can not...will not stand still. That Life and the Universe is always in motion. Ever moving. Never stopping. Always growing. We as the Two-Legged Ones tend to forget this important message so sometimes the Universe sends us reminders of this most important truth “.
“ Can one little star be so important? It is only one among so many”.
“Yes my child one little star can be so important. You are one among many but to us you are the most precious being in the entirely world. There are thousands upon thousands of people who walk in this world, but there in only one you. You are important. You were placed on the Earth and given to your parents for a reason...for a purpose. When you walk your Earthwalk you will discover this reason and better the world for it. This little star, this newborn teaches us this and many more lessons we will discover and understand in time. Life goes on. We live. We learn. We teach. We love. And when it is time we leave this life and begin anew, someplace else. Just like a newborn”.
“And the gifts and offerings Little Mother. What of this?”
“This gifts are to help us unite with this infant star. To teach it, as we have with those who came before it, that life in one big circle. That all those who live within this Sacred Circle, those who live within this Universe, are never alone. Whether they are Two-Legged, Four-Legged, Winged Ones, Those Who Swim, and Those Who Crawl. We are all one and each is important”.
“But why, if this lesson is so important, why is it so easier forgotten?”
“The Two-Legged Ones get caught up in their everyday matters they over look what is right in front of them. We all do. The Road of Life, as we create it for ourselves, could become a series of bumps and pitfalls instead of a smooth pavement because we place on ourselves burdens that do not belong to us. The Great Mystery does not mean for us to do this. It has given us tasks at the moment of out birth that was meant for us to do, no more is needed. But we who are still discovering our true selves sometimes feel the more we do the better it is. But the True Wisdom states it is not “how much” but “how well” we perform each task and for what reason. In short, it is not the end of the journey that counts but our we get there. This Universe shows us that Life is an on going journey with many different roads we were meant to travel on. This is why this night is so special. The Universe is teaching us that Life is constant. It can not stand still. This is against it’s nature and it should be against our nature too. We as a nation of Two-Legged are not finished yet, just like the Universe isn’t finished and the birth of this Newborn proves it”.
As soon as She Who Gives Praise spoke her last word a great white light flashed in the sky. All gazed up to witness a marvelous spectacle of multicolored lights of greens, blues, reds, yellows, and orange danced above their heads while the stars spin about to an unheard melody. The seven remaining sisters planets waltzed around Mother Earth and comets raced across the onyx and purple heavens as if to announce the coming of new life.
But it was Grandmother Moon who the Seven Sisters locked their gaze on a Her as She radiated out shaft a golden light to the exact spot in the sky where the birth was to take place.
At first the Sisters could feel a stillness in the air. Movements and all sounds that were usual within the vicinity of the Sacred Place had ended and in it’s place was a “waiting”. Every Four-Legged and Winged-One turned their attention to the Universe above. Even the Standing Tall Ones stretched open their leafy arms out to the cosmos in anticipation of what's to come.
It was as if a painting from Vincent VanGogh had suddenly come to life as the sky was full of color that were not only brilliant but alive! Colors pulsated like an heartbeat on the spot where Grandmother Moon was sending Her moonbeam. The sky slowly opened itself up and from it came out a faint but determined light. Blinking at a relaxed rate at first, the Newborn quickly picked up speed as it emerged from the Universe’s womb. As any infant the Newborn sought out to find it’s mother’s warmth and see her face, so it began to move closer to Grandmother Moon. Grandmother Moon, overjoyed to see and welcomed Her new child grew to five times her normal size. What the Seven Sisters would soon discover was the reason for Her added size was due to the fact that within Her heavenly body held the Milk of Human Kindness. She would nourish Her child through the moonbeam like an umbilical cord until it was ready it take it’s place within the heavens.
The purpose of why this star was created was simple. People had forgotten how to to kind to one another, so this Newborn is here to reintroduce Humanity to their true nature again. Kindness is not such a difficult thing. The Newborn will remind them that kindness is within them and all around them. That it is not a foolish idea that belongs in the realm of story books and fairy tales but is apart of everyday life. And it should not be pushed away because this simple act maybe considered stupid or be an inconvenience. This little star will help Human beings to ask themselves, “Is this all I could be? Can’t I be more?”, and then help them seek out the answers. It’s “Milky Starlight“ will nourish their desires to know and understand themselves and others better.
As the Seven Sisters beheld the wondrous site of the Universe dancing in completed joy and love. They hugged and each said a silent prayer of thanks of being born at the right time so they could be here to celebrate this new life. The Sisters retook their place within the Sacred Circle and with clasped hands raised above their heads they sang out their blessing in one great voice.
“WELCOME!!! WELCOME LITTLE ONE!!! WELCOME INTO OUR WORLD AND OUR UNIVERSE !!! WE ARE THE WISE WOMEN OF THE LANDS AND WE GREET YOU WITH OPEN ARMS AND HEARTS!!!!”
It was She Who Gives Praise who continued speaking.
“LITTLE ONE! WE HAVE BROUGHT YOU GIFTS FROM OUR CLANS FOR YOU TO CELEBRATE THIS GLORIOUS NIGHT! IT IS TO TEACH YOU THAT YOU ARE APART OF US AS WE ARE APART OF YOU! THERE IS NO “ALONENESS” BUT “ONENESS!” WE ARE APART OF EACH OTHER! WE ARE YOUR FAMILY AS OUR GRANDMOTHER MOON IS YOUR MOTHER! YOUR BIRTH HAS BROUGHT BACK HOPE FOR THIS WORLD AT A TIME MOST NEEDED! WE ARE HERE TO AID YOU IN BRINGING THIS MESSAGE TO ALL THE TWO-LEGGED ONES WHO WILL LISTEN! WE ARE YOUR VOICE!!!!!”
Grandmother Moon, who was watching and listening, sent down a beam of golden and yellow illumination that surrounded each Sister. It was Her way of expressing thanks and gratitude to the Wise Women for showing both love and affection to her child as any mother would. As each Sister was bathed in the light each also received a blessing from Grandmother Moon. The blessing would help them help the Newborn in accomplishing it’s task in aiding Humanity at their time of crisis. The Seven Blessing are:
1) Patience
2) Tolerance
3) Acceptance
4) Humor
5) Empathy
6) Love
7) Hope
The Newborn held the last blessing. It was Faith. All the Two-Legged Ones who walks on the Red Road of Life can and will find the Faith in themselves and in each other to solve all problems and disagreements, if one truly wants to. This power is within them. The power is within all of us. Faith will find the way.
As soon as the blessing was given the night and sky grew quiet. The Great Dance of the Universe has ended as all returned it how it once was. All, of course, except for a brand new beautiful, and ever growing brightly star in the heavens. The Wise Women knew that the ceremony was over. It was time to separate and make the long journey back to their people and tribes. Each Sister turned to the other and wished a good and safe passage back to their homes. It was here where the youngest, their little goddess-in-training, seeked out She Who Gives Praise and asked.
“What will happen now?”
She Who Gives Praise wistfully smiled as she looked up into the sky.
“I am not sure Little One. The Universe rarely tells us it’s plans. We can only accept what they are when it is made known and do the best we can. Remember, the Universe never gives us anything that we cannot handle”.
“So”, the young goddess said, “how are we to prepare?’’
“We don’t. But I can tell you this. Whatever it is, it will be magnificent!”
THE END.
